OMG!!!! I can't believe i'm TWO WEEKS away from my trip to Africa!!!!!
I am extremely excited but at the same time a little bit scared. I know i have travelled by myself since i was 10 or so but there is something about this trip that makes my stomach hurt a little... I think it's because I hate the unknown and somehow I feel like I don't have everything under control... Ahhhh!!!!... Ok ok, I have to look at it from a growing experience perspective... Everybody who knows me would agree that I need to loosen up a little, so this would be the perfect time to do so!!!

Going back home to El Salvador and sharing with people about my plans for backpacking in Africa was somewhat amusing. 99% of the people looked at me in disbelief and said "Why would you go to Africa?" "WHY are you doing that?" "You call that a vacation?" "Is it safe?" "What are you gonna do there?" "Are you sure a lion won't eat you?"... and my favorite one: "what if you fall in love with an African man?" Jajajaja To all of you i say: CHILL OUT!!!! I'll be just fine!

(Regarding the "eating by a lion" issue that a lot of people seem to have: Leslie is supervising my wardrobe so we are not Lion feeding material... she is scared that my bright colors might attract Lions... jajaja... so, i'll be wearing earth tones!!! but hey! at least my blog (and toenails- but don't tell her!) is bright purple/pink! ;-)

So...

For the next couple of weeks I'll be backpacking solo visiting Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, and South Africa (where i will meet Leslie and May for a week! yeay!!) and I am super excited for all the fun stuff I will be able to do there and the people I'll get to meet.
One thing though, I am dreading the outfits and the hiking boots (whoever invented those was not at all into fashion!!!!)
So wish me luck in my new adventure :-)

  1. Andrea,
So glad you are bringing us along on your travels. In response to everyone's fears, I offer a quote from Albert Camus.
"What gives value to travel is fear. It is the fact that, at a certain moment, when we are so far from our own country we are seized by a vague fear, and an instinctive desire to go back to the protection of old habits. This is the most obvious benefit of travel. At that moment we are feverish but also porous, so that the slightest touch makes us quiver to the depths of our being. We come across a cascade of light, and there is eternity. This is why we should not say that we travel for pleasure."--- The Notebooks Albert Camus
