First of all... THANK YOU for all your emails in response to my blog! I've had no time to respond to them but just wanted to acknowledge that I have read them and that I am being careful and that I WILL have the time of my life!!! :-)

So, there are NO WORDS to describe what I'm feeling or seeing in Namibia but i'll do my best to summarize it.
Today I took a bus from Windhoek to swakopmund, which is probably 4 hours. I was so lucky I got to seat in the from seat next to the driver (i was the last one to get in and i saw that nobody was in the front and of course i asked if i could ride in the front) and I am so glad I did. We talked the whole trip, he pointed out animals on the streets, he answered all of my questions, and was super resourceful.

The first thing I noticed on the street were people with big stacks of dry grass and selling big white bags with something inside... I felt really ignorant and really wondered who would buy dry grass?!? The driver told me it was for goats, that people cut the grass behind them and sell it to people passing by to feed their animals. I guess they have learned how to survive and get clever! The poverty level that I saw on the drive was heart breaking! Back home we do see a lot do poverty but somehow seeing the namibians just really truly broke my heart but at the same time it made me smile when I saw poor children playing on the side of the road, climbing trees and doing what kids are supposed to be doing. Growing up I was out all the time with my neighbors, climbing, jumping from roof tops to the mattress we put on the grass, trying to build a play house with a bag of cement, some wood and nails and a maximum of 10 bricks! Jajajaja those are great memories and somehow I feel like children nowadays are missing out on the beauty of childhood and are consumed by media, texting and trying to fit in. Anyway, just seeing children being children in nature made me happy and reminded me that happiness is not measured by the things you have but by your attitude in a life.

On the drive I got to see baboons hanging out in the street, warthog, lots of cattle and goats. It was super funny when I said to the driver "are all these goats wild and walking around by themselves?" And he said "No, you will see the owner under a shady tree" and maybe a km later there he was, sitting under the shady tree and the driver said "look, look there he is" we were both laughing really hard, it might not sound funny but it really was hilarious.

I got to Swakopmund and I decided to take a cab to the hostel. For a second my heart stopped beating! The cab driver did not know exactly where my hostel was and he was driving to the opposite direction of where I saw the street we needed to be on. We were talking and he said "you brave traveling by yourself" and then he proceeded to talk on his phone in Afrikaans and my head just went crazy and I thought: he knows I'm traveling by myself, he is going the wrong direction, and now he just called his friend and I could see a really bad area in front of us... I panicked just a little, got my iPhone out, GPS on and said "stop, stop right now, we are going on the wrong direction just turn around,I have a phone lets follow what this says"... then I took a deep breath and calmed my self down and called the hostel to talk to the driver and give him directions! For a second, I lost it...

Got to the hostel and 30 mins later I was picked up for sand boarding!!!!

Ok, I just can't even begin to explain how AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL the sand dunes are!... But, I can explain in detail how hard it is to climb them!!! Jajajaja

I had such an amazing time going down the hills. The snowboarding was good but the lying down sand boarding was AMAZING!!!!! I got to lay down on a board and go full speed down the sand dune, I ate sand, my eyes were crying but it was all worth it!!!!
I did not like going back up, the sand at time was very loose and it felt as if I was not moving... I just kept repeating "Breathe in I calm my body, breathe out I smile" (a quote from Thich Nhat Hahn from Dr. B's class that I always use)

Being my friendly self I became friends with Pally, the instructor, who made it his mission to show me around. That night we went out for dinner and partied until 3-4 in the morning Namibian style! (shots and everything!) Jajajaja
Obviously I got home really late and my roommate from Russia who was sleeping on the top of my bunk bed was awake and he said "Andrea, glad you are back and ok I was worried; it's almost 4 in the morning!"... How cute is that?!?!? I was speechless that this guy that I talked to for 30 mins earlier in the day was worried about my safety! See... People you meet while traveling are awesome!!!
